Jarrod Saltalamacchia scores big against the Twins in a 5-0 victory

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, nicknamed ‘Salty”, could be the next star hitter for the Red Sox this year.  His presence in Fort Myers, Florida at Jet Blue Park Friday night showed positive results in that he hit his first homerun of the season, giving the Sox a 3-0 lead.  At the bottom of the fourth, when the Sox were already up by 1, Saltalamacchia drove Mike Napoli to the plate shifting the score to a 3-0 lead against the Minnesota Twins. Not only is he an asset to the offense, but he also excels as a confident catcher.  His presence and focus on the game stem from his strategy to, “keep things simple”.

The 5-0 victory against the Twins was only a glimpse at what Saltalamacchia has proven throughout camp. At present he is hitting .417 with five RBI’s. He is a solid performer and, if he keeps it up, the Sox have a chance to make it to the World Series.

Felix Doubront will hopefully solidify a spot as a starting pitcher. Friday evening Doubront held the Twins back as he allowed only two hits in four innings. With John Farrell back, this time as manager, and the fact he knows most of the guys, there is a different chemistry among the players that was not there last season. Farrell is a very confident guy.  He’s in it for one purpose and that is to lead the team to win the World Series.  The fact of the matter is that all of the players this time around are in it for the very same reason – to win the World Series.
