After going 1-3 against the Rays in Tampa Bay, the Red Sox head to Globe Life Park for the final time. On Friday, the Red Sox were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs following the Indians win and their loss to the Rays. With six games left of the season, it’s going to be a long offseason full of questions for this team.
First, the Red Sox head to Globe Life Park to finish off their road trip before heading home to face the Orioles one last time. This will be the last time the Red Sox play at this ballpark, as it is set to close at the end of the season. The team is looking to enjoy their final series at Globe Life Park, and hope to leave with a winning record against the Rangers.
The Red Sox vs Rangers Showdown
Eduardo Rodriguez will get the ball in game one against Edinson Volquez. After getting win number 18 against the Giants, Rodriguez looks to get win number 19, which will be a career high for him. This will be his first encounter with the Rangers this season. The Red Sox have yet to face Volquez this season. He is currently 0-1 in nine games this season. Prior to the 2018 season, he had Tommy John surgery, which made him miss all of 2018. Volquez announced his retirement back in July, and this may be his final game.
Wednesday’s game will feature Rick Porcello against Kolby Allard. Porcello faced the Rangers back on June 12th, going 6.2 innings. He allowed only two runs off of five hits in the game, but received the no decision, as the Red Sox won in a walk off. Allard was an August call up for the Rangers. After pitching for the Braves in 2018, he was traded to the Rangers on July 30th. In eight games this season, he is 4-1 with a 4.25 ERA in 42.1 innings.
The finale at Globe Life Park will have Mike Minor pitching for the Rangers. The Red Sox have yet to name a starter. This will most likely be Minor’s final start at Globe Life Park. Minor last pitched against Boston on June 10th. He went eight innings, allowing two runs off of four hits. The 31 year old veteran is looking for win number 14 of the season.
Globe Life Park’s Final Season
Once the door closes on the 2019 season, Globe Life Park in Arlington will no longer be the home of the Texas Rangers. The final home game for the Rangers, and the stadium, will be this Sunday against the Yankees. Globe Life Park has been the home of the Rangers since 1994. Hall of Famers Vladimir Guerrero Sr. and Ivan Rodriguez called this ballpark home during their careers. Now, in 2020, there will be a new stadium for the next group of Hall of Famers to play in.
The new stadium broke ground on September 28th, 2017, and is expected to be completed before the new season begins. Globe Life Field will host its first Rangers game against the St Louis Cardinals on March 23rd. This will be an exhibition game for the two teams. The first regular season home game is scheduled for March 31st against the LA Angels.
