Shohei Ohtani or Condos?

I hate to be the one to tell you this Red Sox Nation, but you are not getting Shohei Ohtani. John Henry is not going to open up his wallet and spend this off season. Why you might ask? Condos. That is why.

Lets take a trip back in time to July, The Red Sox still had playoff hopes and John Henry dropped his bombshell. The Fenway Sports Group would put up eight new building around Fenway Park. The cost of this little construction project… a cool 1.6 billion dollars.

The eight buildings will range from two stories to 19 stories tall. They will be a mix of lab space, offices, 266 apartments, retail space, and “upgrades to the street”

Goodbye to the old shitty Twins building, say goodbye to the sausage windows, say goodbye to the atmosphere. Also say goodbye to us being able to sell our magazine on city property once Mr. Henry upgrades the street.

Now what does this have to do with a certain star free agent? Do you think John Henry is gonna spend close to 500 million dollars to bring in a star when he has 1.6 billion tied up in a real estate deal, I don’t think so. We are not getting Ohtani, but for those who can afford those sweet new condos being built behind the Green Monster, they will have a great view of him playing for someone else when that team comes to Fenway next season.
